However, in the Netherlands, we can't enjoy the sun's full strength throughout the year, which means it's not always sufficient for the body. Especially during the autumn and winter months, when the sun's intensity is too weak to help the body produce enough vitamin D, it's wise to take vitamin D as an additional supplement.

Vitamin D is essential for good health. It promotes strong bones, teeth, and muscles, and plays a crucial role in the functioning of your immune system. Your immune system is responsible for defending against bacteria, viruses, and foreign substances, making vitamin D vital for overall well-being.

Research also indicates that vitamin D helps combat winter depression.
In one study, a group of healthy individuals took 50 micrograms of vitamin D3 daily for two weeks, and their endurance significantly increased. During physical exertion, they experienced less fatigue, lower blood pressure, and decreased cortisol levels in their bodies.
Various studies suggest that a minimum intake of 30 micrograms is necessary for good health, but the optimal level for proper functioning ranges from 30 to 80 micrograms.
